DANIEL ROSENFELD

Born in Buenos Aires in 1973. He wanted to become a pianist but finally decided for film direction. He studied editing with Miguel Perez, staging with Augusto Fernandes, script with Jorge Goldenberg, and took seminars with Krysztof Kieslowsky, Stephen Frears, Alessandro Baricco, Antonhy Minguella, Ken Adam and Abbas Kiarostami among others.

He won grants from foundations such as Rockefeller & Antorchas, Huber Bals, Fondo Nacional de las Artes (Art’s National Fund), ICI (Inter – American Cooperation Institute), Jan Vrijman and Berlin Talent Campus.

He worked in several feature films as Assistant Director of Alejandro Agresti. And had a brief experience in television as assistant of Sebastian Borenztein and Paul Fischerman. Along with J. Baldanda he created and produced the series Third Eye for Torneos Y Competencias (TYC: Tournaments and Competitions), winning the Martin Fierro award.

His first feature film: “Saluzzi – Ensayo para Bandoneón y Tres Hermanos” (Saluzzi – Bandoneon Rehearsal and Three Brothers) (2001, 35mm, 70 min. Color, B/W) had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival’s Forum.

The film is a journey of the creative process, through the bandoneon player Dino Saluzzi and was nominated as Best Film of the Year by the Sociedad de Críticos de Argentina (Argentine Reviewers Society).

His second feature “La Quimera de los Heroes” (The Chimera of the Heroes) (2003, 35mm, 80 minutes, Color) is about an ex-Argentine rugbier, with radical and fascists ideologies, who seeks to redeem himself by teaching the Tobas aboriginals to play rugby, a typical whites sport. It’s a parable about power and ideologies.

The film was co-produced with Zentropa of Lars Von Trier (Denmark), Serge Lalou DICI & Les Films (France), France2 (TV), SBS (Australian TV), Argentinacine, Argentine Film Institute (INCAA), CNC (French Institute of Cinema) and JFV (Netherlands).

For this film, Rosenfeld received 2 awards at the Venice Film Festival – official competition – “New Director Award”, “Special Jury Mention Award” as well as the Audience Award at the Belfort Festival (France) and Special Mention at the Festival of Buenos Aires.

At present, he also directs commercials and is distinguished by his ability to combine very good acting direction with a determined cinematic visual aesthetics. His exquisite taste in music also leaves his imprint on all his projects.
